Coach Kyle Manary has
recently teamed up with Katy native and former Division I College
basketball player Matt Hall and together they will Co-Direct the 2nd
Annual Learn To Be A Pro Skills Academy in Katy, Texas. This season they
have added two new Skills Academies……one for Jr. High Boys and another
for Jr. High Girls.
Do you want to dominate
your opponents? Then this is definitely for you!
The Youth Skills
Academy is available to boys and girls 7 to 12 years of age. It
is run every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00 pm in Katy. The Jr.
High Boys and Jr. High girls Academies will follow the youth academy.
The player to coach/instructor ratio will be especially small, allowing
every player to get the most individual attention possible for maximum
growth. The Academy is divided into 3 levels: Beginners,
Intermediate, and Advanced. Players will be evaluated and placed
according to their skill level. The Academy will run in
several different sessions throughout the year. A session will contain
four workouts, with each workout lasting an hour and a half. Players can
sign up at any time for the Academy. The cost of each workout is only
$25 per player for the Youth Academy(or $100 for full session) and $30
per player for the Jr. High Boys and Girls Academies ($120 for full
session). The Learn To Be A Pro staff
encourages campers to sign up for the full session (4 workouts) because
The Skills Academy program is designed to progress weekly
from certain individual and team drills to more complex drill work to
allow the player to develop an overall game. The Academy
will follow a strict A to Z development program designed by Coach Kyle.
He believes that given the proper form, technique, and drill work, a
young player can structure a solid fundamental foundation with a lot of
repetition and hard work.
The Learn To Be A Pro
Skills Academy prides itself on developing the player on both
sides of the ball…. individually and within the team setting. Every
player must learn and understand both parts if he or she wishes to get
the most out of his/her abilities. Individual offensive work will
include the young players being taught the fundamental and advanced
skill work in ball handling, passing, rebounding, lay-ups,
runners/floaters, shooting, separation moves, 1 on 1 moves, attack
reads, penetration breakdown moves, reading defenders and making
different cuts, and playing out of 2 man games. Individual defensive
work will teach players to learn on ball techniques, containing
penetration, defensive angles, jumping off ball, form slides, closeouts,
charges, steal positions, and challenges with block outs. The Team
offensive work will focus on screening – (setting the defender up,
reading the defense, and the actual angle of setting a screen), spacing
so we don’t crowd other teammates, movement with out the ball, making
reads the defense gives you, cuts, playing off of other teammates,
offense vs. man to man defense, and also offense vs. zone defenses. Team
defensive work will cover positioning on and off the ball, rotations
from weak side, check downs, rebounding, scrambles, closeouts, doubles,
all defensive man to man principles, and all defensive zone principals.
The Learn To Be A Pro Skills Academy
will provide young players with the instruction Division I players are
getting when they reach college. Everyone always says, “Man I wish I
knew that back when I played” now for the first time ever we will make
that saying disappear. Every player, progressing through The
Academy will be exposed to the same knowledge that is given to
some of the best athletes in the world. Coach Kyle and Coach Matt have
an unbelievable passion and love for the game. Come see for yourself.
You will be absolutely amazed at the high energy, detailed teaching
techniques, and the incredible coaching staff that Learn To Be A
Pro Skills Academy has assembled to help young players
in Katy develop their games.
